The (Man in the) Band:  JD McPherson

What’s the story?:  Some (right minded) people think that music didn’t get any better than before the time Elvis got drafted. JD McPherson is one of those people; an unapologetic retro rockabilly who somehow sounds more vital in an age where auto-tuning and computer trickery has replaced smoking saxophones, twinkling pianos and stand up bass.

Sounds Like:  An original hipster be-bopping back to the future in a sweaty dancehall get-down.

The gateway song:    “North Side Gal”

Other songs:

“Signs and Signifiers”

“Country Boy”

If you like this, check out these bands/songs:

Eddie Cochran “Nervous Breakdown”

Harry Connick, Jr. ‘She’ album (especially “To Love the Language”)

Colin James “Voodoo Thing”
